Chausse Posts Career Single-Game High Four Goals to Lead Lacrosse to a 17-2 Win over Norwich

BRIGHTON, Mass. - Simmons lacrosse (11-2, 8-1 GNAC) moved into sole second place with a 17-2 win against Norwich University (7-3 5-2 GNAC) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Saturday afternoon.

Within the first 30 seconds, sophomore midfielder Marita Nothacker buried a successful free-position goal to set the tone offensively. Over the next few minutes, Simmons saw unassisted goals from sophomore attackers Cameron Richards and Julia Chausse. Junior midfielder Emi Boedeker scored off of a fast break after winning herself the draw control. After Chausse added a first quarter assist, connecting with sophomore Leah Manfra, first-year Kat Wood took advantage of a Norwich yellow card and gave Simmons a 6-0 lead. Following a trio of free-position goals from Nothacker and senior Lilly Devitt, Wood concluded the first period with her second goal to put the Sharks in front, 10-0.

A gritty Simmons defense was able to hold Norwich from scoring in the second quarter. Devitt won five draw control with junior Sidney Pilot winning four, to help Simmons keep possession approaching the half. In the last six minutes of the quarter, sophomore attacker Cameron Richards found Julia Chausse to score the lone goal of the period, giving the Sharks an 11-0 lead at halftime.

The third quarter began with momentum on the side of the Sharks. Wood dished a pass to Richards then Chausse recorded her third of the to put Simmons on top, 13-0. Midway through the quarter, the Cadets broke up the shutout scoring at the five-minute mark. However, senior attacker Zoe Robertson got the goal right back, scoring her second of her career a minute later. A pair of first-years, Maddie Desimio-Maloney and Layla Drinkwater, gave the Sharks a 14-goal lead to end the third quarter scoring .

Simmons scored two goals – from Wood and Chausse in the final quarter, before the game was called due to inclement weather.

Simmons Highlights

  • Sophomore Julia Chausse eclipsed her career single-game best, scoring four goals. It was the sixth time this season she recorded three or more goals.
  • First-year Kat Wood and sophomore Marita Nothacker each registered a hat-trick, tallying three goals.
  • Additionally, Nothacker had a career-high with six caused turnovers.

Game Notes

  • The Sharks dominated defensively, tallying 21 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers.
  • Simmons outshot Norwich 37-5, while winning 15-of-13 draw controls.
