Lacrosse Overpowers Dean to Move to 4-0 in GNAC Play

Box Score

BRIGHTON, Mass. – For the fifth time in program history, Simmons lacrosse (6-2, 4-0 GNAC) scored 23 goals on an opponent following a 23-3 win over Dean College (3-3, 3-2 GNAC) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play, Saturday afternoon. The Sharks remain one of only three teams in the conference with unblemished conference marks, improving to 4-0.

Eleven different players scored for the Sharks, with seven of them having at least a pair of goals against the Bulldogs. Graduate senior Abby Stoller led all scorers with five goals, while sophomore Frida Turriza followed up with four goals and an assist for five points.

Turriza ignited the Sharks offensive firepower finding the back of the goal a minute into the contest before senior Sammi Hogan put Simmons up by two 30 seconds later. However, Dean's Maire Brown connected Jazzy Sztyler-Magee within seconds to cut the deficit in half. But it was as close as the Bulldogs would get all game.

Sophomore Kat Wood answered the Bulldogs' goal slipping a pass to junior Marita Nothacker to put the Sharks back ahead by two, 3-1. From there the offense continued to pile up. Stoller added another two goals before Turriza collected a pass from sophomore Layla Drinkwater in front of the net to conclude the first quarter with an 8-2 lead.

Turriza began the second period of play the same way she ended the last period. Hogan found the New Hampshire native sprinting towards the goal for the ninths Sharks tally. After three minutes went by, Nothacker received a pass from Chausse on the far side and buried her second goal of the game.

Following a pair of goals by Stoller, sophomore Maddie Desimio-Maloney ended the first half connected on a pair of goals to Chausse and junior Cameron Richards to head to the locker room with a 14-2 advantage.

When the teams returned at the start of the second half, Simmons kept their foot on the the accelerator. Midway through the third quarter, graduate senior Kayla Boulas connected with Hogan on a player advantage opportunity to take a 17-2 lead. Fellow graduate senior Emily Duffley ended the quarter dishing a pass to Desimio-Maloney for the squads' 18th goal.

The final period of play featured a pair of goals from senior Riley Campbell, who tied her career single-game high, while Duffley registered her first collegiate career goal. With just over eight minutes remaining in the game, Duffley took a pass from Richards and deposited it nicely into the net.

Senior goalkeeper Katie Castle moved to 4-0 on the season recording four saves on the afternoon.
