PAXTON, Mass. – Simmons lacrosse (13-2, 11-0 GNAC) remains one of two teams in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) with perfect conference mark following a 20-4 road win over Anna Maria College (1-12, 0-10 GNAC) on Saturday morning.  

The Sharks attacked early, scoring twice within the first minute of play. Junior Julia Chausse buried and unassisted goal to give Simmons the 1-0 lead before sophomore Kat Wood connected with graduate senior Abby Stoller eight seconds later to increase the lead to two. Déjà vu struck again three minutes with the pair scoring the Sharks third goal of the game.

Appearing in her first game of the season, senior Lauren Whitman registered her first goal of the season, scoring with just over two-and-half minutes to play and give the Sharks the 7-0 lead. With just over two minutes to play in the period, Anna Maria broke up the stalemate with a Riley Cote goal.

The Amcats began the second quarter with an unassisted goal from Makayla Gleba to cut the deficit to five, 7-2. However, senior Sammi Hogan and sophomore Frida Turriza answered and pushed the lead back to seven with back-to-back tallies, before Cote scored her second goal of the game to head into halftime with a 9-3 lead.

Returning to the field at the start of the second half, the Sharks quickly found themselves with the player advantage and for the third time in the game, Wood and Stoller connected to put Simmons up 10-3. Moments later, Stoller buried her second goal of the period to take an 11-3 lead. Five different Sharks scored in the third period alone, including junior Cameron Richards, who had pair of assists before her goal with seconds remaining to put Simmons in front, 15-3. 

Simmons did not layoff off in the fourth and final period of play. Stoller opened with another two goals, while senior Riley Wasiuk notched her first goal of the season midway through the period. In addition to her goal, Wasiuk was once again outstanding defensively, registering seven ground balls and four caused turnovers – becoming the new program record holder.

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

• Senior Riley Wasiuk became the new program record holder in caused turnovers with four today. Additionally, she eclipsed her previous single-game best with seven ground balls.
• Graduate senior Abby Stoller led the way offensively with six goals, while winning five draws.
• Junior Marita Nothacker recorded four draw controls, while finding the back of the goal twice.
