BOSTON - Simmons tennis enters the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) 2024 Tennis Tournament with the third seed, as they will have revenge on their mind when they travel to University of St. Joseph (Conn.) on Saturday for a noon match in the semifinals.
Â
There may be no better time for the postseason to start for the Sharks, as they head into the tournament on a two-match win streak, including a 7-0 dominant win over Lesley University on Wednesday. Capping off an 8-5 regular season where they finished 2-2 in GNAC play.
Â
If the Sharks want to secure a spot in the GNAC tournament championship, they will have to go through a familiar opponent, the USJ Blue Jays who narrowly defeated the Sharks this season, 5-4. That match will begin at noon this Saturday, with a potential championship appearance for Simmons taking place the following Saturday. ?
Â
The Sharks were led this season behind stellar play from sophomore
Emilie Lapointe and first year
Masha Shutts. They both finished regular season play with overall 11-2 records, and impressive nine-match winning streaks. First year
Amoli Vad and sophomore
Grace Burke also finished the season with winning records, helping the Sharks secure a spot in this year's GNAC tournament.
Â
GNAC postseason play will begin this Saturday at noon, as the Sharks fight to secure a spot in the championship match for the first time since 2017.
