Box Score 2 BOSTON – Simmons volleyball (0-2) opened the 2024 campaign hosting Emerson College (1-0) and Manhattanville (1-0) on Friday morning. However, the Lions and Valients got the best of the Sharks.
MATCH 1: EMERSON 3, SIMMONS 0
In their first match of the season, the Sharks found themselves down early but showed no sign of backing down. Trailing by six, 18-15, late in the first set, Simmons responded with a 6-2 run to tie the set a 20-20 and force Lions Head Coach Ben Read to take his first time.
The Sharks pulled ahead by one, 21-20, but was unable to pull out the win, dropping the first set, 25-23. With momentum on their side, Emerson took the second and third sets by scores of 25-14 and 25-18, respectively.
Graduate senior Zoë Chatterton registered an outstanding .350 attack percentage tallying 11 kills on 20 attempts with only four errors. Sophomore
Carolina Rodriguez was solid in the back row, tallying 13 digs.
MATCH 2: MANHATTANVILLE 3, SIMMONS 1
After dropping the first set to the Valiants, the Sharks stormed back and tied the match up at one with a 25-22. Simmons took a 4-1 lead early thanks to a kill by junior
Kate Petrosso and never looked back as sophomore outside hitter
Hannah Pridgeon posted a .353 attack percentage with eight kills.
Manhattanville answered, jumping out to a 7-1 lead in the third set. But the Sharks were not going to be denied battling their way back to tie up the set a 11 before taking a one-point lead, 12-11. It was as close as they would come as the Valients held on to take the third set, 25-20 before edging out the Sharks, 25-23, in the fourth.
Pridgeon came one dig shy of a double-double as she led offense tallying a career single-game high 17 kills, while also tallying nine digs. Junior
Iliana Diaz was nearly perfect from the floor tallying seven kills on 10 attempts as sophomore
Carolina Rodriguez led the way defensively with 16 digs.
SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS
- Graduate senior Zoë Chatterton posted a .350 attack percentage (17 kills on 20 attempts) against Emerson.
- Sophomore libero Carolina Rodriguez registered 29 digs with 13 against Emerson and 16 against Manhattanville.
- Fellow sophomore Hannah Pridgeon recorded a career single-game high 17 kills against Manhattanville.
