Box Score BOSTON – Returning to the hard court for the second straight day, Simmons volleyball (0-3) fell to Nazareth College (1-1) in four sets, 3-1, on Saturday morning.
After dropping the first set, 25-19, the Sharks managed to come back edging out the Golden Flyers in the second set, 25-22, to tie the match at 1-1. Sophomore outside hitter
Hannah Pridgeon as nearly perfect from the floor, tallying five kills on seven attempts of a staggering .714 attack percentage.
Nazareth jumped back in front, 2-1, taking the third set 25-18, but Simmons was not going down easily. The two teams battle each other back-and-forth at the start of the fourth set with six ties and three lead changes. Senior middle blocker Megan Doxsee was flawless from the floor registering three kills on seven attempts, while fellow senior
April Beatty paced the offense with four assists.
But it was not enough. Midway through the fourth set, the Golden Flyers utilized a 6-2 to widen the gap, to 16-12 and force third year Head Coach Pat Helmas to call his first time out. Coming out of the timeout, junior
Iliana Diaz cut the deficit back to four with a kill but it was as close as they got as Nazareth pulled back out in front and held on to take the fourth set by a score of 25-18.
SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS
- Graduate senior Zoë Chatterton led the Sharks with 14 kills.
- Fellow graduate senior April Beatty came two digs shy of a double-double tallying 29 assists and eight digs.
- Sophomore libero Carolina Rodigurez anchored the back row with 18 digs, as classmate Hannah Pridgeon chipped in with nine kills, offensively.
