BOSTON, Mass. – The Simmons University tennis team will take on nationally-ranked No. 16 Swarthmore College in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 8, at host site Amherst College.
As announced during Monday's NCAA Selection Show, 37 teams earned automatic qualification into the tournament, while 12 programs received at-large bids. Opening round competition begins May 8, with the championship concluding May 22 at Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The Sharks secured an automatic bid after capturing the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship in their first season in the league this past fall. Top-seeded Simmons defeated No. 2 Husson University, 5-2, on October 12 to clinch the title.
Simmons has now claimed 11 conference championships in program history. The Sharks last appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2015 after winning the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) title in 2014, advancing past the opening round.
Swarthmore enters the tournament with a 15-6 overall record and is making its second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and eighth overall.
