WATERVILLE, Maine – Simmons University Women's Tennis swept the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) weekly awards, as junior Masha Shutts was named Player of the Week, first-year Victoria McCrann earned Rookie of the Week, and the junior doubles tandem of Shutts and Amoli Vad collected Doubles Team of the Week honors, as announced by the conference office this afternoon.
The Sharks went a perfect 2-0 in NAC action last week, defeating Husson University, 6-1, and Thomas College, 7-0.
Shutts was dominant at the top of the lineup, posting a perfect 2-0 record at No. 1 singles. The junior opened the week with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Husson before following with a 6-1, 6-3 win against Thomas.
McCrann turned in a strong week at No. 6 singles, also finishing 2-0. The rookie battled to a 6-2, 5-7, 10-6 victory over Husson before cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 win against Thomas.
In doubles play, Shutts and Vad continued their stellar start to the season at the No. 1 position. The junior duo earned a 6-1 victory over Husson and followed with a 6-0 shutout against Thomas to remain unbeaten on the week.
Simmons returns to action on Wednesday when the Sharks host UMass Boston at 3:30 p.m. at Daly.
